This painting was created as a study of the landscape techniques of Willem Maris, one of the leading artists of the Hague School. Rather than focusing on detail, the aim was to capture atmosphere, light, and colour. The reflections in the water, the subtle pink and blue tones in the sky, and the presence of the cattle evoke the quiet simplicity characteristic of the Dutch polder landscape. Through this study, I explored how loose brushwork and harmonious colour relationships can create a sense of space, light, and atmosphere.
